TOKO AWS A5.1 E6010 Cellulose Sodium Welding Electrode
High-cellulose sodium-coated electrode designed for single- and multi-pass welding of carbon steel. Combines a forceful digging arc, deep penetration, and fast-freeze slag, making it the preferred choice for pipeline root passes, structural erection, and repair work on contaminated surfaces. DC+ only.
Key Advantages
- AWS A5.1 / SFA-5.1 compliant — full traceability and certified mechanicals.
- Cellulose sodium coating — provides forceful digging arc, ideal for root penetration in open-root joints.
- All-position capability — flat, horizontal, vertical-up, vertical-down, and overhead.
- Exceptional contaminant tolerance — welds through rust, paint, oil, and mill scale.
- DC+ operation only — optimized for DC reverse polarity, delivers maximum arc force.
- Minimal slag — thin, friable slag reduces cleaning time between passes.
- Available diameters: 2.5mm (3/32"), 3.2mm (1/8"), 4.0mm (5/32"), 5.0mm (3/16").
Performance Benefits for Pipeline & Critical Structural Welding
- Arc Force: Powerful, penetrating arc ensures root fusion in open-root joints, even with tight fit-up.
- Fast-Freeze Slag: Rapid solidification supports vertical-down progression (stovepipe welding) and overhead positions.
- Slag Removal: Thin, easily removable slag minimizes cleaning time.
- Surface Tolerance: Ideal for field repairs where grinding is impractical; burns through contaminants.
- X-Ray Quality: When properly used, produces welds that meet radiographic standards.
E6010 vs. E6011 vs. E6013: Key Differences
| Feature | E6010 (Cellulose Sodium) | E6011 (Cellulose Potassium) | E6013 (Rutile) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arc Characteristic | Forceful, digging, deep penetration | Forceful, digging, deep penetration | Soft, smooth, shallow to medium penetration |
| Power Source | DC+ only | AC or DC+ | AC or DC+/DC- |
| Penetration | Very Deep (ideal for root passes) | Deep | Shallow to Medium |
| Slag System | Thin, fast-freeze, minimal slag | Thin, fast-freeze | Heavy, easy-removing |
| Surface Tolerance | Excellent (rust, paint, oil) | Excellent | Moderate |
| Typical Applications | Pipeline root/hot passes, API 5L | Pipeline, structural, repair | General fabrication, sheet metal |
| Skill Level | Professional / Advanced | Intermediate / Professional | Beginner / General purpose |
Primary Industrial Applications
Trusted by pipeline contractors, structural fabricators, and maintenance crews worldwide for critical welds.
Pipeline Welding
Root, hot, fill, and cap passes on cross-country pipelines (API 5L). Industry standard for "stovepipe" vertical-down welding.
Structural Steel
Field erection of bridges, buildings, and heavy structures where deep penetration and X-ray quality are required.
Heavy Equipment Repair
Mining, construction, and farm machinery repair — grinds through oil-soaked, rusty, or dirty surfaces.
Shipbuilding & Offshore
Hull repairs, deck fittings, and offshore structures where wind and surface prep are challenging.
Additional Applications
- Storage tank fabrication (root passes)
- Pressure vessel (non-code) root welds
- Galvanized steel welding
- Railcar repair and fabrication
- Field maintenance & repair in remote locations
- Bridge construction (critical welds)
Technical Specifications
Chemical Composition (Typical, Weld Metal)
| Element | Value (%) |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 0.07 – 0.15 |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.50 – 0.90 |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.15 – 0.30 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.025 |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.020 |
Mechanical Properties (As-Welded)
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength (MPa) | 410 – 560 |
| Yield Strength (MPa) | ≥ 330 |
| Elongation (%) | ≥ 22 |
| Charpy V-notch @ -20°C (J) | ≥ 27 (typical 40-60) |
Welding Parameters (DC+ Only)
| Diameter (mm) | Current (A) All-Positions | Current (A) Flat/Horizontal |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5 | 40 – 70 | 50 – 80 |
| 3.2 | 70 – 125 | 80 – 140 |
| 4.0 | 90 – 170 | 120 – 200 |
| 5.0 | 140 – 220 | 160 – 250 |
DC+ (reverse polarity) required. AC not recommended due to poor arc stability with sodium coating.
Storage & Re-drying
| Condition | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Unopened packaging | Store in dry place (<60% RH) |
| Opened electrodes | Use within 4 hours; re-drying not recommended as it removes essential moisture |
| Re-drying (if absolutely necessary) | Not recommended - will degrade performance. If damp, discard. |
Important: E6010 relies on controlled moisture in the coating. Do not bake or re-dry, as this will destroy the arc characteristics.
